Belated Merry Christmas everyone! We were very luck this year and was able to have a wonderful Christmas in sunny - actually rainy- San Diego. Getting here was a fiasco! We were scheduled to leave KC at 3:10. We headed up to the airport at 12:30 because the roads were getting slick with the weather that was moving in. We ate out close to the airport, parked the car, started to get checked in and I get a phone call from my brother saying my flight was delayed. The plane is Dallas broke and had to be taken off line. That meant we missed our connecting flight in Dallas. We finally got to San Diego at 10:30 their time. The unfortunate surprises of flying. Our luggage managed to spend the night in Dallas and didn't get to us until 9:30pm the next night.
We had a great time and hated coming back to KC. I will have more for you later!

Day One
This is my first attempt at blogging. I really enjoy reading other people's blog so I thought I would give it a try.
A little about myself, my name is Misty, I just turned 39 years old, I have been married 16 years tomorrow and don't have any kids - unless you count my husband!
I am a teacher and have taught for 16 years. I enjoy quilting and scrapbooking. Right now, I am spending most of my time quilting.
My grandmother was a quilter and I have grown to love the different colors and fabrics and designs. I was able to complete one quilt with her help before she died. It is amazing how you take for granted that someone will be around for quite awhile and never really take the time to learn things from them. I am lucky I at least got to create one quilt with her.
My best friend, Barb, was instrumental in getting me back into quilting in a big way. We joined a quilt group in Belton along with a few other friends and became involved in learning from other members, creating charity quilts, fun things like fat quarter swaps, brown bag challenges, and ugly fabric challenge. A group of us have since broke off from the original group and have started another group at the same store. We call ourselve the Scarlet Thread Quilt Group. If you are a quilter and in the Belton, MO area, join us at Heritage Fine Fabrics on the 4th Tuesday of the month. We would love to have more members. Heritage Fine Fabrics is a great little shop. Connie, the owner, is a wonderful person and fun to be around. She goes out to dinner with the group of us after our meetings quite often.
I have made 7 or 8 quilts so far. I created the first quilt with my grandmother and mother, high school memory quilts for my niece and nephew, a memory quilt for my mom after my dad died, a scrappy hearts quilt made with fabric I inherited from my grandmother, 2 wall hangings for the brown bag challenges, and a memory quilt for my mother in law since my father-in-law has died. Darren and I lost our dad's 14 months apart- but that is another story for another day!
Currently I am working on the memory quilt for my Mother-In-Law for Christmas. We are having our family Christmas with her in January so I have about a month left to get it done. I am hoping she is clueless about blogging and won't find this until AFTER we have our Christmas. IF you know my MIL, please don't clue her in!!!
I will post pictures of the quilts when I get time. I really enjoyed working on my dad's quilt - it was really therapeutic and I needed a lot of therapy after he died. I took several of Dad's times and used them as sashing around a photo block. I then sewed those blocks together creating the top. Dad loved Hawaiian shirts with pockets. I used several of those to create the back of the quilt. Dad was famous for leaving ink pens in his pockets and Mom washing them. I had the shirt he wore the night he died and dang if it didn't have a huge ol' ink spot on it. I made sure that one made it onto the back. I had it quilted by a local quilter named Leslie. She has done all my quilts except the wall hangings and my first quilt. I quilted those on my machine, nothing exciting, just stitch in the ditch.
Well, I think I need to stop for tonight. Grey's Anatomy is coming on and I just have to watch. I will get pictures posted soon.
